Preventing sexual violence – ECPAT Hungary
Child sexual abuse and exploitation are among the world’s most serious child rights issues. ECPAT, the largest organization of its kind, operates in 130 countries to prevent and combat child abuse. Since 2020, Hintalovon has proudly represented ECPAT in Hungary, strengthening our advocacy for children affected by abuse and exploitation.
The Situation in Hungary
Our 2021 Country Report indicates that many victims of sexual exploitation come from marginalized backgrounds, with children in state care at higher risk. Our 2022 “Boys Don’t Cry” report highlights the underreporting of sexual abuse cases involving boys. In 2023, our program focused on the pressing issue of online child sexual exploitation. The statistics are alarming: in Europe, one in five children experiences sexual violence, and in one-third of documented online abuse cases, the child involved is under ten years old.
Our impact
In Hungary, reported cases of child sexual abuse are rising—not necessarily due to more incidents, but as more hidden cases come to light. Our work focuses on education, knowledge-sharing, and awareness to bring even more cases forward.
