What happened in 2016?

For the first time, in 2017, a comprehensive examination was carried out on the child rights events of the past year, which drew a picture of legislative changes, statistics, and validation of child rights. We also saw which child rights topics dominated the conversation, i.e. what we, the adults, think about children.

What was it like to be a child in Hungary in 2016? This first evidence based objective report which considers both positive and negative developments and focuses on values and children’s rights without judgement and recommendations.

In 2017, we not only celebrated 26 years of recognising child rights, but also that the Child Protection Act (1997. No. 31. Act) is 20 years old. Did we really have a reason to celebrate? What is it like to be a child in Hungary two and a half decades after the appearance of child rights?
